Artist Statement

The quiet margins of Oregon

Naomi Branham travels trail corridors on foot with medium-format film, waiting hours for coastal fog to reveal granite contours and hemlock ridges.

Field Patience

Stillness along the trail

Rushed vista photography often overlooks the subtle texture of rain-soaked hemlock and coastal slate. Moving on foot forces a slower cadence where changing weather dictates composition rather than rigid itineraries.

Most frames happen during damp early hours when damp air softens ridge lines. The camera stays mounted on its tripod until wind settles and water surfaces mirror coastal headlands.

Cotton Pressing

Exposing slow-speed medium format negatives under natural morning light preserves micro-contrast across wet granite, cedar bark, and low-lying coastal clouds.

Contact sheets and initial test strips are inspected against indirect northern window light to match the true tonal depth recorded on the mountain.

Final editions are printed on heavyweight cotton rag with mineral pigments, yielding a velvet matte finish made to endure generations.

Wild stillness in daily living

Every print ships flat-packed in acid-free archival sleeves directly from our Oregon studio, numbered and signed by Naomi.
